Goals & Objectives 2007 - 2010

The following goals and objectives were developed as a result of the Strategic Planning Meeting held on June 1, 2007.

  1. Increase the participating & employing contractor base by promoting apprenticeship to MAF and non-MAF masonry contractors.

    Objectives:

    1. Identify, solicit and encourage Masonry contractors to employ apprentices
    2. Identify, solicit and encourage shell builders, home builders and general contactors that employ masons to employ apprentices.
    3. Encourage Masonry contractors and suppliers to join MAF
    4. Partner with workforce development offices to provide incentives to encourage contractors to employ apprentices and train employees
       
  2. Increase activities to coordinate education and conduct skill building training to the masonry, specifying and construction industries.

    Objectives:
    1. Identify and meet educational needs and opportunities of the Masonry industry
    2. Identify educational needs and opportunities of shell builders, home builders and general contactors
    3. Identify educational needs and opportunities of architects, engineers and masonry systems specifiers
    4. Identify educational needs and opportunities of construction craft educators
       
  3. Increase education efforts about apprenticeship to Florida legislators, Department of Education, the Agency for Workforce Innovation and local Workforce Development Boards.

    Objectives:
    1. Develop Apprenticeship funding from the state to the Foundation.
    2. Support the need for continued DOE Apprentice funding for local masonry programs.
    3. Maintain contact with state agencies to secure information on legislation for training funding.
    4. Work with local Workforce Boards to develop funding for contractor apprentice training and funding for masonry/construction education.
       
  4. Maintain the current apprenticeship feeder systems such as pre-apprenticeship, Workforce Development and community based programs.

    Objectives:
    1. Maintain contact with all existing pre-apprentice programs and work with new programs as requested.
    2. Work with Workforce Development offices to place people in the Masonry trade.
    3. Work with Corrections and Juvenile Justice Departments (DOC & DJJ) to coordinate training and placement of people.
    4. Monitor the success of pre-apprentice programs to the Masonry industry.
       
  5. Operate the Foundation in the financial black each year.

    Objectives:
    1. Identify and solicit industry stakeholders and potential patron sponsors
    2. Organize fundraising activities to generate revenue
      Apply and secure apprenticeship and training grants where appropriate
    3. Conduct industry training and educational programs to offset foundation recruitment and program costs
       
  6. Measure the results of the Strategic Work Plans.

    Objectives:
    1. Maintain a minimum of 500 apprentice students in all state masonry apprentice programs
    2. Increase participating contractors to 200, from 109 in ’06. (381/109=3.5 to 500/200=2.5 apprentices per contractor.
    3. Increase Registered Apprentice Programs from 14 to 25 with an average of 20 students per program.
    4. Organize 20 industry training programs per year outside apprenticeship classes.
    5. Maintain 2000 pre-apprentice students in all feeder systems
    6. Monitor the NCCER National Registry of apprentice and pre-apprentice records under the Foundation sponsorship
