Course Objectives:

This intensive half-day course will help you:

  • LEARN the design software’s analysis capability, including exploration of all required loading combinations, and design for the most critical case.
  • EXPLORE & COMPARE different design codes (including IBC 2006 & MSJC 2005), strength design and allowable stress designs.
  • MAKE design decisions using a wealth of graphically displayed information.
  • DESIGN masonry walls & lintels more accurately and give your clients more economical designs.
  • REDUCE design time and potential for error.
  • UNDERSTAND un-reinforced & reinforced masonry, shear walls, columns, design of reinforced concrete or masonry lintels, and valuable design fundamentals.
About the Instructor:

Russell Brown, P.E., Ph.D., is Professor Emeritus of Civil Engineering at Clemson University and chaired the Flexure and Axial Loads Subcommittee of the Masonry Standards Joint Committee during the 2005 code cycle. He is immediate past chair of the ASTM C-15 committee on Manufactured Units. Dr. Brown is Secretary/Treasurer of The Masonry Society. He has conducted research on behavior and design of masonry structures and components, and several of the current code provisions are based on his research. He teaches a course in structural design of masonry and has conducted over 150 seminars on masonry design and codes. Dr. Brown is a co-author with Dr. James K. Nelson of the software being distributed at this seminar.
